In early September, the Napier/Wairoa team proudly hosted a three-day visit from the BLENNZ National Assessment Service (NAS).

Ten ākonga received full two-day assessments from a multidisciplinary team, including an ophthalmologist, optometrist, orientation and mobility specialist, speech-language therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, and functional sensory specialists. Whānau also had the opportunity to speak with a counsellor.

An additional five ākonga received partial assessments tailored to their needs. Valuable insights were gained about each child, and we were thrilled to welcome 23 teachers and specialists from local schools who attended sessions. Feedback from  whānau, local specialists, and educators was overwhelmingly positive.

We look forward to welcoming the NAS team again in the future!

Eliza is interacting with a round metallic tray that holds several brightly coloured suction toys in orange, red, and blue. The toys are arranged upright on the tray, and an adult hand is visible holding the edge of the tray. The background includes a curtain and part of the chair’s armrest.
