At the end of term 2, BLENNZ Tauranga were fortunate to run the four-day Developmental Orientation and Mobility on Campus course for 10 RTVs.

Involved in this event were 2 BLENNZ Developmental Orientation and Mobility specialists, Mark Gear and Ania Rutkowska as well as Dr Nicola McDowell from Massey University. We had RTVs from the teams in Tauranga, Hamilton and Pukekoe attending.
The four days included practical sessions on guiding, cane skills, room familiarisations and map making. The course explored the theory behind techniques to support our ākonga moving around their school environments safely as well as given the staff the experience of being blind or low vision in a respectful way. The staff comments included “it was an amazing learning experience.”
